I am a 27-year-old young lady. At the age of 22 I was involved in a car accident that caused a spinal cord injury, leading to me being completely paraplegic (wheelchair user). It is very hard to go through such a transformation and one must find coping mechanisms to overcome the negative impacts associated with the situation. This is where my passion for cooking developed as I mostly found myself at home bored. So, I cured the boredom by cooking, and I did it wholeheartedly because it redirected my thoughts from negative thinking to cooking only. Nothing matters when I am cooking except for the food. I get compliments from my family members and friends; they all enjoyed my food. Cooking is my passion because it was part of my healing journey and every day, I strive myself to be a better cook. The biggest life experience that has shaped who I am today was being paralyzed at the age of 22, this has shifted my mindset and has allowed me to reflect on the gift of life. It has made me to look at life from a different picture and allowed me to choose how I wanted to live my life. I am unique because of my life experiences and the ability to overcome them. My dream is to one day inspire fellow youth/people living with disabilities to realize their potential.
